What is WIC?
WIC is a supplemental nutrition program that encourages families to make lifelong healthy eating and activity choices.
WIC strives to:
Protect infant health through prenatal nutrition
Promote and support breastfeeding (rent hospital grade breast pumps to clients when available)
Inspire healthy eating and physical activity
Provide health checks height, weight and iron testing to assess growth and iron levels
Educate caregivers to improve their children’s health
Provide nourishing foods for young families
Offer referrals to other health and social services
Who Do We Serve?
WIC services are provided to income eligible participants that include:
Pregnant & breastfeeding women
All postpartum women up to 6 months
Infants up to 1 year of age and
Children, ages 1 up to the month of their 5th birthday
If you are a legal guardian or caregiver (grandparents and fathers) of a child under the age of 5. They may also be eligible to receive WIC services.
In the misfortunate event of a miscarriage a woman is eligible to receive benefits up to 6 months after the loss of a baby.
WIC has moved from a paper check to a EWIC card that uploads your healthy food benefits on a monthly basis.
Healthy foods include: fruits, veggies, whole grains, dairy products, protein sources like beans – peanut butter and formula if needed.
WIC eligibility is granted on an income base: OR
Those who receive AHCCCSC, SNAP, TANF, FDPIR and Section 8
housing are automatically eligible to receive WIC benefits.
