Summit Healthcare is a not-for-profit rural hospital that is continually expanding services so patients can receive quality healthcare right here at home. Summit Healthcare offers an array of services including 24-Emergency Department which is Pediatric Certified, Cardiac and Vascular Cath Lab, Diagnostic Imaging, Women’s Imaging, Home Health Services, IV Therapy, Cancer Center with Medical and Radiation Oncology, Women & Infant Services, Level II Nursery, Therapy Services with Children’s Therapy – Occupational Health- Physical Therapy – Speech Therapy, Pain Medicine, Surgical Services, Telemedicine, Wound Care and Hyperbarics and much more. We are proud to offer technology usually found in larger cities – right here in the White Mountains. For a complete list of services visit SummitHealthcare.net.
Continuing to Grow in Services and Programs

Summit Healthcare Regional Medical Center and its affiliates continue to grow and expand on the services and programs to meet the healthcare needs of our communities. In April 2015, Summit Healthcare installed a state-of-the-art surgical navigation system from Stryker. Summit Healthcare is among the first in the Northeastern Arizona to use a computer-assisted navigation system in conjunction with orthopedic joint replacement surgery. Dr. Raul Curiel is currently using navigation technology from Stryker in knee/hip replacement surgeries.

In November, Summit Healthcare was designated Arizona’s first and only Touchpoints Arizona site. DeAnn Davies, Director of Early Childhood Outreach and Child Psychology (ECOD), Sarah Nolan, Coordinator, Healthy Steps for Young Children, and Rebecca Benda-Dodd, Coordinator, Program for Infant and Toddler Care completed the rigorous one year prerequisite protocol and application process and training to become Touchpoints Community Level Trainers for the Brazelton Institute of Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School. The Touchpoints model provides a strategy for practitioners to provide non-judgmental and supportive care. Touchpoints promotes the mission and vision of Summit Healthcare because families receiving the Touchpoints approach will have one more reason to trust they will receive exceptional and compassionate care close to home. The Summit Healthcare ECOD Touchpoints training team will be offering this training to Summit and community based healthcare and social workers to enhance relationship building with those we serve.

Across the country, healthcare facilities in rural areas are joining forces to create large networks of healthcare providers focusing on increased collaboration. In August, Summit Healthcare announced that it has entered into an oncology collaboration agreement with Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center in Gilbert, Arizona. This agreement is an extension of the existing health care collaboration between Summit Healthcare and Banner Health. The primary goal of both agreements is to ensure that Summit Healthcare patients receive the highest level of care for all their medical needs. Through this oncology agreement, Summit Healthcare patients will have direct access to Banner MD Anderson, should the need arise. The preferred referral relationship between these entities will provide patients with a designated navigator to coordinate seamless care in the event that transfers to Banner MD Anderson are necessary. The navigator will assist these patients through their courses of treatment at Banner MD Anderson and help with their integration back home once treatment is complete.

Summit Healthcare has been engaged in a wide-ranging, collaborative effort to expand behavioral health care services. The effort began with behavioral health planning and outreach grants, both from the federal Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The overall goal is to develop an integrated model of primary care and behavioral health care. The integrated care network will include Summit Healthcare, Banner Health, Community Counseling Centers and Northern Arizona’s Regional Behavioral Health Authority, Health Choice Integrated Care.

EVENTS
Summit kicked off the Spring in April with the 17th Annual Women’s Health Conference. The presenters were Becky Potts, President, National Region for Frontier Communications and Cori Kennedy, Naturopathic Medicine Physician. The attendees visited vendor booths, shopped, had a wonderful lunch, and listened to the presenters. Sign up now for Summit Healthcare’s 18th Annual Women’s Health Conference to be held on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at Hon-Dah Resort and Casino from 10am – 2pm. For registration details, please visit www.summithealthcare.net.
Summit Healthcare Foundation’s goal for the 2015 “Dark Skies and Black Ties” Gala was to raise funds for Telemedicine at Summit Healthcare. The funds raised will allow Summit Healthcare to put telemedicine equipment in clinics and schools to connect patients with specialists from their community so they do not have to travel long distances for healthcare. Join us in continuing to meet the healthcare needs on the mountain by attending the formal event “Dark Skies and Black Ties – Guitars Under the Stars” Gala. This two day event will begin on Friday, July 15, 2016 with Golf the Summit AND Ladies Day at Torreon Golf Club and the Gala will be held on Saturday, July 16 at 5:00 pm at Hon-Dah Resort and Conference Center. For more information, to purchase tickets or to become a sponsor, please call 928.537.6829 or visit www.summitgala.net.
FACILITY
Summit Healthcare Regional Medical Center continued to expand the facility throughout 2015. Summit Healthcare’s newly expanded and renovated Cancer Center held their grand opening on October 10, with food catered from Celebrations and tours throughout the center. The expansion provides additional space for patients to receive treatments, private treatment rooms, expansion of the pharmacy, and a healing garden for patients and families. An overhang has been added to the design so patients do not have to weather the cold.

Summit Healthcare Family Medicine at Bison Ranch, formerly the Heber-Overgaard Community Clinic is preparing to relocate to a new building and will continue to provide a full compliment and scope of family medicine services.  The patient population served will range from pediatric to geriatric patients.  Further, the clinic will routinely offer specialty clinics provided by specialists from Summit Healthcare Medical Associates.  Ground was broken in October 2015 at Bison Ranch for the 5,300 square foot facility. The clinic is scheduled to open in Summer 2016.

Summit Healthcare Family Medicine Snowflake-Taylor, offices of Dr. Chad Brimhall and Dr. Darrell Brimhall, will be opening in February 2016. The two physicians were born and raised in the Snowflake area and have been practicing at Snowflake Medical Center for the past few years. Their new clinic is adjacent to Summit’s Snowflake Imaging Center.
