Linda Kingery, Development Director with the Family Advocacy Center shares information about what the center offers for the children and families of Navajo County and about an upcoming fundraiser.

The FAC has been open over 6 years now, since May 2011. They have helped over 1,100 children who have been physically or sexually abused. Currently there is a part-time victim advocate who follows up with the parents and children; help with counseling and case management. Hopefully they will have a mental help therapist soon to help at the center and be able to offer more services to the community.

 

*The 5th Annual Golf Tournament for the FAC will be benefiting the Family Advocacy Center, a non-profit agency providing services to children of physical and sexual abuse. 

It will be held on Saturday, September 8, 2017 at the Torreon Golf Course. 12:30pm Shotgun. Set Aside Scramble. $110 entry fee which includes: golf, cart, dinner, prizes, great raffle & silent auction items)

This past week, the mountain lost a very beloved and important member of the community, Mr. Bob Gates. Hearts & Prayers for his wife, Linda and family. Bob will be greatly missed but not forgotten.

Who is Penny Comerford?

I have worked at ChangePoint for 9 years. I was born and raised here and proudly have never lived anywhere but here. A true mountain girl. I have been married 38 years, with 2 kids and 6 grandkids. I previously worked for Catholic Social Services and trained foster parents for the State of Arizona. I currently teach domestic violence groups for abusers and teach the recovery groups for substance abuse. I LOVE my job!

Haven of Lakeside began operations in March of 2015. They are a 107 bed skilled nursing facility that offers a wide array of expertise in physical, occupational, and speech therapy, dementia care, and global cognitive impairment. Who is Tyson Taylor?

Tyson Taylor, MBA-Executive Director

Tyson has worked in the healthcare field on and off since 2006. Prior to working with Haven Healthcare, Tyson worked as a can for Heritage Health Care for two years. He worked for Deseret Mutual benefit insurance company for four years. He also spent a year working with the Haven Healthcare corporate office prior to becoming the Executive Director at Haven of Lakeside. Tyson has his BA in Biology from Utah Valley University, and has an MBA with an emphasis in health care administration from Benedictine University. Tyson loves working in healthcare, and has spent a lot of time building relationships over the last year with the community, and the Haven of Lakeside facility. Tyson and his wife Becky have three kids and one on the way. Tyson enjoys the outdoors and likes fishing, hunting, hiking, and camping. He also enjoys the occasional round of golf.

 

 

Who is Mary Coy?

Mary Coy LPN-Behavioral Unit Manager

Mary has been in the healthcare field for twenty years. Mary earned her degree at Estrella Mountain Community College. She has worked in a variety of nursing settings ranging from acute to behavioral, but found her passion in the Geriatric Alzheimer/ Dementia field. Although Mary has worked in a variety of locations, she loves to call the White Mountains home, and has worked in this community for many years. When Mary is not working she enjoys gardening, wildlife photography, and spending time with her family.

Chrissy and Bob share an exciting fundraiser for St. Anthony's!

A Stand Up Comedy Show featuring Arizona's Top 3 Comedians will be held at the Blue Ridge Auditorium September 23rd.  Tickets are $25 per person, for fun, clean comedy. The funds are being raised for a new bus, a means of safe transportation from Snowflake to St. Anthony's and to and from Whiteriver. Come support your community!

Jim, a member of the Submarine Veterans talks about another great event this weekend! 

The Annual White Mountain Submarine Veterans Golf Tournament will be this Saturday, August 5th at the Snowflake Community Golf Course. Registration is from 7am-9am. During that time there will be a silent auction, raffle, delicious coffee and donuts!

Tickets are $75/person. All money raised stays in the community! There will be little surprises while you're golfing. Come out and have some fun.

Jimmy Applegate with the Show Low Chamber of Commerce is excited about the Outdoor Expo that will take place this Saturday, August 5th from 8 am to 3 pm. The Expo will be in front of Sportman's and Pet Sense in the Park Pineway Plaza. There will be something for all: Hunters, Fishermen, Archers, Campers, Hikers, Boaters, Off-Roaders, and more.
